ZeN, one of the admins at TheRegulator.net and the site Ed Hale of Plains Radio has threatened to ask Leo Donofrio to “sue”, has posted a response to Ed’s claims on the number of listeners of his show.
Ed,
I’m being totally nice and honest here to the best of my ability. If anyone has honest questions, I will answer them here or by email zen (at) theregulator.net .
I’m sure that this matter could be cleared up by one of your more internet savvy listeners, or your shoutcast host serverroom.
You said: “Now since Ihave made this a pivate server, that mean you can only hear it at web stie that has it embeded.”
I realize that you think this is the case, but that’s not really true at all.
If you click view / page source on your browser and search the code for value=”http://38.96.148.95:6346” that is your broadcast stream address.
This is a protocol (http://) IP address (38.96.148.95) and port number (6346) that could be plugged into any number of applications like winamp or a podcasting application.
As far as the data we are referencing for the users and bandwidth, this is generated by your own shoutcast host (serverroom). The serverroom account number was provided by you on a graph that you posted on this forum when you made the original announcement of 21 Million listeners.
Anyway, here is the data so you can see for yourself.
The data is divided into two separate charts (Traffic and Listeners). Traffic is measured by bits per second. One Kilobit equals 1024 bits, one Megabit equals 1024 Kilobits.
Your audio stream is encoded at a bitrate of 32kbps (or 32,000 bits per second). This data is available on your shows directory listing on Shoutcast.
The M in the traffic graph represents Megabits of traffic.
Traffic:
http://www.serverroom.us/rrdgraph.php?graph=S10135&lid=1Listeners is more straight forward. One listener equals an open connection to http://38.96.148.95:6346
Listeners:
http://www.serverroom.us/rrdgraph.php?graph=S10135&lid=2So you see, that’s where our information comes from. No smoke and no mirrors. I think you should be proud to have all those listeners.
ZeN
Of course, Ed has been given this information before. Ed is just too stuborn to admit that he was wrong about his “21 million listeners” claim.
Thanks for the bump friendlyobot!
Nice place you have here!
=)
